Handling & Preventive Care of Museum Objects

This course discusses the best practices in handling museum objects when they are moved within the museum for various purposes such as imaging, exhibitions and display. preventive conservation of these objects will also be included in this course.

The course will be taught by the conservation professionals with expertise in handling different kinds of museum artifacts.

Documentation and Survey of Paintings & Built Heritage

This course aims at demonstrating the benefits of documenting artifacts and architectural spaces by photography and photogrammetry. The course will involve 2D/3D merging of multiple images captured with the help of a camera. Photogrammetry technique allows for better understanding of the surfaces, generating merged and scaled images and models of objects and spaces. The course will also introduce photogrammetry as a tool for comparing the condition of surfaces over time.

Museum Imaging

This course on museum photography imarts theoretical and practical training on various techniques utilized in imaging museum objects, use of different software for digital correction and enhancement, as well as methodologies for filing images.

Photographic documentation is the most important activity being carried out on museum and art objects. In addition to serving as a permanent record, informing the condition of objects, photographic images are invaluable for display, reports, catalogs, exhibition, conservation interventions, research etc.

Multispectral Imaging

Multi-spectral imaging (MSI) involves imaging in the infrared, visible and ultraviolet spectrums of electromagnetic radiation. The technique is useful in studying elements of painting technique such as the fluorescence properties of pigments, to differentiate between the pigments used and to expose underdrawings. The course introduces MSI, processing of captured images using softwares and their interpretation.
